TRURO - She’s only five years old but focus and determination are evident when Paige McLeod tackles the climbing wall at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
“I like going up high,’ she said. “It’s easy.”
Paige was introduced to the sport when her parents, Chris and Susan, took she and her sister Sam to the open house at the centre. Although Sam wasn’t fond of the activity Paige immediately enjoyed it.
“She did so well during the open house that I checked into the cost and times and found that they have community climb times on Saturday,” said Susan. “Paige went all the way to the top the second time she climbed. One day when there weren’t many people using the wall she spent three hours here.”
Paige has been climbing every Saturday since she first tried the wall and has conquered eight out of the 10 wall areas.
“She’s not scared of anything,” added her mother. “She’s kind of shy but not when it comes to activities. If there’s another kid beside her on the wall she’ll go up as fast as she can until she passes them, then slow down again. She’s aggressive when playing soccer too.
“She’s always bouncy at home. If she’s standing waiting for something she’ll be bouncing.”
Because Paige is so fond of climbing her parents are beginning to wonder whether she will be climbing mountains in the future.
