BROOKFIELD- The 12th annual Mayor’s Challenge Curling event is being held today, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield.
Craig Burgess, manager of recreation services for the County of Colchester and challenge organizer, said it’s a great event to participate in and brings together families, co-workers and neighbours.
“This is an event to encourage people to get out and to enjoy the winter time,” the 35-year curling veteran said.
Around 10 teams signed on for the event. The cost is $40 per team to register.
“A lot of the teams are family, we have a couple from Tatamagouche who have been curling here for years.”
The winning teams will win jackets and a prize table will be set up for runners-up. Burgess said it encourages people to try something new.
“Try something you haven’t done before. If you watch curling on television, why not try it? I’ve seen people curl in their 90s.”
