TRURO – Time is almost up to nominate an outstanding teacher for regional and provincial awards.
According to the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB), students, parents, guardians, community members and educational colleagues are asked to nominate an outstanding teacher for a 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award by March 21.
This award recognizes teachers whose dedication to excellence provides students with the skills necessary to prepare them for life-long learning and success.
Each candidate must be nominated by three people: a school administrator, a teacher colleague, and a member of the public. Nomination forms are available at all school offices, through school advisory councils and on the CCRSB website under the Excellence in Teaching Award 2014 link.
The awards will be presented on May 6. Up to 15 awards will be presented. Each recipient will receive a certificate of recognition and $500 to use within their teaching program.
In addition, the nomination deadline for the provincial Education Week Awards, recognizing teachers who exemplifies the 2014 theme: Active Citizenship: Get Involved. Take Action, Be the Difference,” is Feb. 14.
The CCRSB regional education week committee, consisting of Nova Scotia Teachers Union local representatives, elected board members and CCRSB central office staff, will consider all nominations.
One name will be selected from each of the three NSTU locals within the board, and those individuals will be recommended to the provincial education week committee to receive recognition during Provincial Education Week on April 20 to 26. The education week awards will be presented on April 22. The location has yet to be determined.
