TRURO – Thanks but no thanks.
That is the message that Colchester County Council is extending to Truro Council regarding a request to participate on a Tourism Task Force Committee the town is developing.
“I move that we respectfully decline the invitation,” Councillor Mike Cooper said.
Coun. Christine Blair was the only member to vote against the motion to decline.
The town said in its correspondence to the county that it is interested in developing a strategy for attracting and visitors and increasing their length of stays in the Truro area.
The town’s tourism committee said that to be effective, its strategy must involve a wide variety of business and organizational partners in the area.
“I think that’s something we’ll be getting more involved in ourselves, is tourism,” added county Mayor Bob Taylor.
Council did, however, accept an invitation from the Truro and Colchester Chamber of Commerce to have a representative join that board for 2014.
Coun. Tom Taggart volunteered to fill that role.
