TRURO – The Town of Truro has a new deputy mayor.

Joseph takes over Truro’s deputy mayor position

Ward 3 Coun. Danny Joseph has stepped into the one-year position, which is decided internally by council.

Coun. Brian Kinsman was nominated, but he declined the offer.

Joseph was uncontested and will immediately replace outgoing deputy mayor Greg MacArthur.

Coun. Tom Chisholm said something to “keep in mind when we do the (annual) budget” is a pay raise for the deputy mayor’s position, beginning April.

“Truro’s deputy mayor (is) the lowest paid of all other towns … even though we are bigger than some towns,” said Chisholm, offering information from the town’s audit committee.

Truro Mayor Bill Mills estimated the deputy mayor’s pay could increase from $21,000 to $24,000 a year.
