HALIFAX - More than 200 nurses are expected to attend the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union’s Safe Staffing Summit in Truro on Monday.

According to a news release from the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nurse practitioners will meet at the Best Western Glengarry to mark the inclusion of new collective agreement language that addresses staffing shortages and optimizes care in a system with chronic challenges.

This new process, which has been successful in other provinces, relies on nursesprofessional knowledge and expertise to identify unsafe work environments. Nova Scotia is the first nurse union in Atlantic Canada to adopt the language.

Janet Hazelton, president of the NursesUnion, says the members will receive education and training at the safe Staffing Summit which will enable them and their co-workers to activate mechanisms that track and resolve staffing issues.
