TRURO – It’s been a long time in the making, but Brent Reid’s solo album has finally arrived.

Brent Reid, who founded Cornerstone and Cornerstone Ministries, released a solo gospel album, A Mother’s Prayer, two months ago and is hoping to perform in Truro sometime soon. Now living in Hantsport, Reid still considers Truro his second home. Submitted photo

Reid, one of the members of the gospel group Cornerstone, released ‘A Mother’s Prayer’ two months ago.

“A solo album is just something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Reid, who lives in Hantsport now but calls Truro his second home. “I’ve been singing since the age of three and it all worked out for the album now. It all fell together in the past year.”

Starting Cornerstone almost 20 years ago with his family, Reid said his wife, Charlene, is taking some time off from the group this year and he was already performing some solo shows on his own.

“I have a brother who has a good recording studio in Ottawa and he asked, ‘why don’t you come here and record a solo album?’ So, I got in my car and went. Having him offer, that was the final push,” said Reid.

‘A Mother’s Prayer’ features six original songs, including one with the title ‘A Miracle.’

“It’s a song of my personal testimony of how God worked a miracle in my own life and the miracle He offers to all,” Reid said in the album’s jacket.

‘Thank You Jesus’ is a way, Reid said, to express what he has done for me and will do for all.

The song under the same name as the album title is about Reid’s experience at the age of 21, a time when he was very sick and almost died.

“Through the power of prayer, God made a promise to my parents to heal me as well as a reminder of the promise He gave of spiritual healing when Jesus rose again,” the album reads.

While he hasn’t written a lot of his own songs, Reid does get some assistance from a brother who lives in Pugwash when needed.

“He puts the tracks down and usually adds harmony vocals,” Reid said.

Along with the solo album, Cornerstone has released three prior albums. During the past 18 years, Cornerstone has ministered at more than 1,500 events, appearing in about 350 churches and venues.

Although nothing is scheduled as of yet, Reid knows he will perform in the Truro area with the new album sometime in the near future.
