TRURO – Retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is coming to Truro in June.

The former commander of the International Space Station, who soared to worldwide fame during his last mission in outer space because of his prolific input on social media, is scheduled to participate in the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council’s 65th anniversary celebrations on June 25 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

Hadfield is also the first Canadian astronaut to walk in space.

“We have three incredible speakers confirmed for a big show at the Community Credit Union Arena,” said council CEO and president, Dianne Kelderman. “We hope to pack the place.”

The other two confirmed speakers are Laurie Screslet, the first Canadian to conquer Mount Everest, and Kristen Christian, a woman from the United States who organized the Bank Transfer Day.

And Kelderman said efforts are also being made to try to bring in Bare Naked Ladies front man Ed Roberston to sing with Hadfield.

The theme of the anniversary celebration is called: The Power of a Dream.
