LOS ANGELES - Not everyoneâs first day of school involves Sharon Stone and Dennis Quaid popping by their desk, but Halifaxâs Theresa Capell said thatâs what her time in Hollywood has felt like.
Hollywood actor Chris Noth, of Sex and the City fame, jokingly poses with a pair of earrings he bought for his wife prior to the Golden Globes from Halifax jewelry designer Theresa Capell, middle.
Capell, a jewelry designer and recent graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, got the chance to show off her work to celebrities last week before Sundayâs Golden Globes in a luxury gift suite in Los Angeles.
âI was a teeny bit star struck when I met the few people that I knew I loved,â Capell said about her favourite stars like Meghan Ory, who plays Red Riding Hood in the TV show Once Upon a Time, and Anna Gunn from Breaking Bad.
Capell, who has a stall at the Seaport Farmerâs Market, said she was âvery fortunateâ a Hollywood entertainment company saw her designs and liked them enough to invite her to their gift suite.
Speaking over the phone from L.A., Capell said it was nice meeting all kinds of actors, writers and film people who shared stories about what itâs like to work on a Hollywood set.
âIt was kind of like your first day of school,â Capell said, adding she was happy to get a photo with Dennis Quaid, and Sharon Stone was âabsolutely wonderful.â
The star of the hit movie Basic Instinct, Stone stopped by Capellâs table with her sister, and was so taken with the natural materials like leaves and pinecones Capell uses in her Foxine line she gave a set of earrings to her sibling.
âIt reminded her of how thereâd be pinecones all over her lawn,â Capell said. âThey just loved how it made them relate back to their childhood.â
Capell said sheâll be enjoying the California sunshine for another few days as she plans on visiting a few boutiques in the hopes of getting her pieces on display.
âIf Iâm going to go to L.A. I might as well take it for what itâs worth, kind of use this opportunity to help myself,â said Capell.
