TRURO - A Truro Heights man who pled guilty to weapons and drug charges was sentenced to four years in a federal prison.

Court news

Murray O'Toole, 27, of 17 Mitchell Dr., Apt. 3, who pled guilty to possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking, was found with 182 Hydromorphone tablets, 36 grams of marijuana, nine tablets of Oxycontin and four tablets of Diazepam when he was arrested at the residence when police arrived with a search warrant.

Police also found a loaded, sawed-off 20-guage shotgun in O'Toole's backpack, which also contained the drugs.

Drug paraphernalia, shotgun ammunition and other items were also seized, along with $1,500 in cash that O'Toole had on his person.

His five-year-old son was also in the apartment at the time of his arrest.

"There's a large element of deterrence required here," Judge Warren Zimmer said, in handing down the sentence.

Part of the prison term was for other drug charges to which O'Toole also pled guilty, which date to March 2012.
