RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae told the Truro Daily News mid-Saturday morning that the investigation is actively continuing.

“Right now … we are still on the scene” and a forensics team continues to process the area. A major crime team is also working through the day on the case and RCMP “have not released names and ages” of the people involved in the incident.

MacRae also confirmed a man arrested in connection with the women’s deaths “remains in serious to critical condition” at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro.

An RCMP official from the Bible Hill detachment told the Truro Daily News early Saturday morning that there was nothing new to report on the incident that resulted in the death of two women on Pictou Road yesterday afternoon. The official said there could possibly be an updated later Saturday.

VALLEY – Two women are dead and a seriously injured man was transported to hospital in what police suspect could be a double homicide and attempted suicide.

“It’s definitely a possibility,” RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae, said, regarding the attempted suicide angle.

“That is one of the possibilities.”

Police received a 911 call at 3:02 p.m. Friday to respond to 492 Pictou Rd.

“When police arrived we found an adult female deceased,” MacRae said. “And then we took into custody an adult male who was transported to Colchester hospital with serious injury.”

Upon further investigation of the property, he said, a second adult female was found deceased.

The situation was still freshly under investigation and MacRae said he did not immediately know the cause of death to the female victims nor what caused the injuries to the “possible suspect.”

He also did not disclose the ages or the connection between the three individuals.

“It’s a very chaotic scene right now and we’re still trying to clear the scene to make sure everybody’s safe and there’s no other others suspects,” Colchester RCMP Cpl. Addie Maccallum had earlier told the Truro Daily News, shortly after an ambulance had departed the area with siren and emergency lights activated.

A police service dog was also visible at the scene.

Motorists travelling west along Pictou Road were being detoured at Valley Crossroads while eastbound vehicles were being detoured through Mulberry Terrace.
