Upper end of Pictou Road shut down as police investigate

VALLEY – Two women are dead and a seriously injured man was transported to hospital in what police suspect could be a double homicide and attempted suicide.

“It’s definitely a possibility,” RCMP Cpl Scott MacRae, said, regarding the attempted suicide angle.

“That is one of the possibilities.”

Police received a 911 call at 3:02 p.m. Friday to respond to 492 Pictou Road.

“When police arrived we found an adult female deceased,” MacRae said. “And then we took into custody an adult male who was transported to Colchester hospital with serious injury.”

Upon further investigation of the property, he said, a second adult female was found deceased.

Although police would not confirm the identity of the victims, outside sources have confirmed one of the deceased females is homeowner Elizabeth MacPherson, a VON nurse.

The situation was still freshly under investigation and MacRae said he did not immediately know the cause of death to the female victims nor what caused the injuries to the “possible suspect.”

He also did not disclose the ages or the connection between the three individuals.

“It’s a very chaotic scene right now and we’re still trying to clear the scene to make sure everybody’s safe and there’s no other others suspects, Colchester RCMP Cpl. Addie Maccallum had earlier told the Truro Daily News, shortly after an ambulance had departed the area with siren and emergency lights activated.

“As I said, it’s a very chaotic scene. The investigators are just arriving on the scene down there now,” he said.

A police service dog was also visible at the scene.

Motorists travelling west along Pictou Road were being detoured at Valley Crossroads while eastbound vehicles were being detoured through Mulberry Terrace.
