HALIFAX — Halifax police say they have received a steady stream of tips after broadcasting a video on YouTube of wrapped Christmas gifts being taken from a home.

Halifax police are searching for this man after he broke into a Dartmouth home and stole Christmas presents on Dec.19

Const. Pierre Bourdages says the video and photographs were taken Thursday by a wireless surveillance camera.

The video shows a man in a blue jacket and jeans entering the house and moving around it.

Police say the homeowner returned home from work at 4 p.m. Thursday to find his home had been broken into and Christmas gifts, electronics and collector coins were missing.

Police believe the video surveillance captured the man walking around the house at about 11:20 a.m. that day.

Bourdages says wireless cameras are increasingly used for security and home surveillance when homeowners are away or at work.

He says police received more than a dozen tips within a few hours of media outlets posting the images on websites Tuesday afternoon.

Bourdages says the video was posted at the homeowner’s request after officers viewed it.
