Zann not pursuing personal cyberbullying issue

The NDP MLA for Truro-Bible Hill-Salmon River-Millbrook told the Truro Daily News she spoke with the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and Truro police on Monday and “will not proceed further.”

Zann said last week that she was cyberbullied, through Twitter, by a number of people after a male Cobequid Educational Centre student posted a topless photo of her online. Zann said the photo was taken from an episode in the TV series “The L Word,” in which she acted in 2008.

“The young man, I hope, has learned his lesson. CCRSB and the police spoke to him and it was handled well. I think he’d think twice (about doing it again) and has realized it’s a serious issue,” Zann told this paper.

“He’s been very good (since) and hasn’t been in touch with me.”

Zann said the incident was a reminder that cyberbullying can “happen to anyone.”

“People can get carried away … I hope this was a wakeup call … words can hurt. We need to develop more respect for each other.”

When asked if the system failed her, in regards to recent legislation against cyberbullying, Zann said no.

“The system didn’t fail … I’m choosing to not go forward.”

The MLA also told Truro Daily News that as of Monday night she intended to stop using Twitter.

“I am quitting Twitter. I’ve had enough of the attacking.”

Stop giving this lunatic any more attention. Cyberbullying, my eye. The kid should sue her for defamation. She was in no way harassed or bullied.
