TRURO – More than $13,000 will go to food banks in Colchester County this holiday season thanks to the Sobeys Fill the Food Bank Campaign.
The two-week event saw Sobeys, Needs and Foodland locations in Colchester band together to raise $13,683. Across the Maritimes, $539,560 was raised through a network of more than 300 locations. The campaign has raised more than $3.1 million since its inception four years ago.
“We’re so proud to have our customers and staff rally around this effort and support our local food banks,” Robie Street Sobeys store manager Andrew St. Coeur said in a release.
“The people of Colchester demonstrate just how generous they are time and again, and Fill the Food Bank is certainly no exception.”
According to a Food Banks Canada report release in March, 21,760 Nova Scotians used food banks with children making up 32 per cent of that number.
