TRURO – Colchester County RCMP will be out in force this weekend, conducting checkpoints across communities in support of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

RCMP to increase presence on Colchester County roads.

As part of National Safe Driving Week, RCMP is conducting a coordinated impaired driving enforcement campaign across the country and have designated Saturday as National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

"There will be an increase in checkpoints this weekend and throughout the year as RCMP in Nova Scotia increase our efforts to identify and apprehend drivers impaired by alcohol and drugs," said Cpl. Addie Maccallum of Colchester County RCMP. "The consequences of driving impaired are significant. You are making the choice to place your life in danger and choosing to put the lives of others in danger. We also ask passengers of impaired drivers to have the courage to say no, refrain from getting into the vehicle and call police."

Citizens who spot a suspected impaired driver are encouraged to call 911 and report the location where the vehicle is travelling, description of the driver and/or vehicle, and license plate information.
