TRURO – A Truro town councillor will now be a voting member of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition commission.

Raymond Tynes has been attending commission meetings, but not as a voting member.

“NSPE always wanted a member from the town to serve on the commission to see if we have a role to play,” Tynes told the Truro Daily News on Monday after town council cleared with legal representation that there wouldn’t be any legal issues with Tynes taking on the new role.

“After watching its finances and negotiations they’ve turned a corner … the impact of the NSPE affects the whole county” and beyond, Tynes told this paper regarding why he’s interested in being a voting member of the commission.

He said he’d like to offer some “direction and wisdom … to help make sure we don’t lose one of the economic engines in the area. The Town of Truro residents use the facility more than anybody,” he said.
