TRURO – Participants are being sought for a special themed fundraiser for the Colchester SPCA.
Strikes for Strays is a fundraising initiative in its second year for the Colchester SPCA. It will be held Nov. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Bible Hill Bowlacade and teams should be made up of three or four people. Each team member must raise or donate $20.
Sara Delaney, shelter manager, told the Truro Daily News the goal is to increase last year’s event, which raised about $2,500 from 14 teams.
The money raised, said Delaney, will go toward two specific shelter needs.
“We need a washer and we hope to replace, not patch, the roof on the older, individual dog runs,” said Delaney, adding there are two holes that are two or three feet wide due to cracks and wind damage.
The bowling event will also have a super heroes theme and anyone in costume is eligible for prizes. There will be other prizes up for grabs throughout the afternoon, including an SPCA ornament for anyone who raises $100 and a free pet portrait for the highest pledge collector.
The deadline to sign up is Nov. 9 by 3 p.m. by dropping into the SPCA on Industrial Avenue in Truro and picking up a pledge sheet/registration form. Registration can also be done online at www.spcans.ca (click on Colchester).
