BIBLE HILL – There are a couple of reasons to celebrate Scotia Pool next weekend.

A 40th anniversary celebration of the Bible Hill-based facility will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26

from 2 to 4 p.m. People can swim for a loonie and there will be light refreshments and door prizes.

Susan Coleman, secretary of the Scotia Pool Society, told the Truro Daily News the event is special not only because of the milestone but because the fight to save the pool has continued, never giving up hope.

“It’s definitely a celebration, especially everything we’ve been through,” said Coleman, adding, “there’s still a need for a second pool (in the area) that is warm-watered. Some people think we are closed and we are not.”

The afternoon of fun and physical activity will also help promote the pool and “make more people aware” of its need in the community, said Coleman.

Scotia Pool was initially expected to close last month, however, increased revenue and a pending new lease agreement with the provincial government is making it possible for Scotia Pool to remain open beyond its scheduled Sept. 30 closing date.

In addition, supporters of Scotia Pool have entered the facility in the Aviva Community Fund online competition. The ‘Save Scotia Pool using green technology’ entry is designated #ACF17434. Voting for the first round closed on Monday and scores and votes are being tabulated now.
