AMHERST – Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley MP Scott Armstrong continues to be among Nova Scotia’s most frugal parliamentarians.

Armstrong spent $389,159 during the 2012-13 fiscal year.

That’s down from $393,308 last year and $450,757 in 2010-11.

Of Nova Scotia’s 11MPs, Armstrong has the fourth lowest expenses according to Parliament’s Board of Internal Economy.

Central Nova MP and Justice Minister Peter MacKay had the lowest expenses at $368,140, while Halifax West MP Geoff Regan’s were second lowest at $368,447 and West Nova MP Greg Kerr’s third lowest at $376,260.

Rodger Cuzner’s expenses were the highest at $473,415. His and Mark Eyking’s ($418,814) are higher than others because there are no direct flights from Ottawa to Sydney and they must catch a connecting flight in Halifax on the way back and forth to Parliament Hill.

As for Armstrong’s expenses, he spent $200,264 on employees’ salaries and service contracts, $12,768 on travel and $4,338 on employees’ travel, $12,176 on members per diem accommodations and $13,066 on secondaryresidence expenses.

Armstrong also spent $3,622 on hospitality and expenses, $26,444 on advertising and $4,569 on other print-related expeses.

He paid $23,906 for constituency office expeses, $855 on equipment rentals, $6,222 on telecommunication services, $327 on office repairs and maintenance, $1,303 for postage and courier services, $3,452 for materials and supplies and $186 on training.

Of his expenses, $75,254 is from resources provided by the House of Commons totaled $75,254 and included $32,546 in member travel, $7,174 for householders and $5,296 for the 10 per centers. There were $5,199 in telecommunication services and $7,890 in materials and supplies.
