BIBLE HILL – A search warrant executed at a Staple Brook Road residence in Debert resulted in the seizure of more than 20 pounds of marijuana, other drugs and a firearm.
Jacob Earle Weatherbee, 31, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and remains in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday. Another accused was released from custody and is to appear in provincial court in Truro at a later date.
An RCMP spokesman said Weatherbee was arrested following a short foot chase after members of the Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit and Colchester District RCMP showed up at the residence on Sept. 27.
A 22-year-old female and a 32-year-old male were arrested at the scene without incident.
Cpl. Addie Maccallum said evidence located at the residence and the assistance of the RCMP police dog led to another search warrant being obtained for a nearby residence on Staples Brook Road.
Combined, the searches resulted in the seizure of a “large quantity” of drugs, including more than 20 pounds of harvested marijuana, hashish and marijuana oil. Cash and an unsafely stored firearm were also seized.
