TRURO - Riverfront Park will be the site of a good food market on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Co-organizer Kenda MacLellan said the event is to offer the community more opportunities to purchase local, affordable produce. The market is modelled after Good Food Markets held weekly in Toronto where the initiative is situated where there is little access to grocery stores.
"The Good Food Market is not meant to compete with the Truro Farmers’ Market, but to complement it,” said MacLellan in a news release. “It presents another venue for local produce to be put in the hands of families who find it challenging to afford healthy food."
Erica Pryde, co-organizer, said the event has received funding for printing and related costs from the Living Earth Council. As well as food to purchase, samples of soup will be given out along with recipes. The event will feature music and some creative, seasonal surprises.
The organizers hope to form a committee to plan monthly Good Food Markets in 2014. For more information, or to volunteer, call 890-7127 and check out the Good Food Market on facebook.
