BIBLE HILL – Another step into the possible construction of a crosswalk on a busy thoroughfare in Bible Hill is being taken.
During a village commission meeting this week, commissioners again discussed the possibility of having a pedestrian crosswalk and overhead light at the intersection of College and Vimy roads.
The village will have an engineer review and evaluate the existing intersection of College and Vimy. The next step is to gather existing information pertaining to the intersection from the village with emphasis on vehicular flow, pedestrian crossing data, record drawings verifying roadway geometry, sight lines, accident statistics, etc. The project has to be done in conjunction with the Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Department.
Village clerk Bob Christianson said the desire is to see the project progress “this fall.”
According to village officials, the need for the crosswalk system is there, in part, because of a discontinuity of existing pedestrian sidewalk facilities in the area.
Presently, College Road has a sidewalk on the south side from Main Street to the west and Vimy Road. The sidewalk continues east of Vimy on the north side of College Road. Vimy serves as a cross-connector between College Road to the south and Pictou Road to the north. Vimy has a sidewalk on its west side only.
