TRURO – A number of community events are taking place this weekend, all in the name of helping people who suffer from cystic fibrosis.
The Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Shinerama is taking place on
Saturday to raise money for cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease which causes mucus to build up in the lungs, making it hard to breathe. Originally, a patient living with CF wasn’t expected to live past childhood but because of the research during the past few decades, cystic fibrosis patients now have a life expectancy into adulthood.
The Shinerama hopes to add funds for CF research and the goal for the local event is to raise $5,000. The community events will include a car wash at the Walker Street auto centre from 9 a.m. until noon. A dunk tank, face painting and other activities will also be held at the Truro Farmers’ Market during the same hours as part of the Shinerama.
In addition, from 2 to 4 p.m., a barbecue outside of Price Chopper on Pictou Road will round out the fundraising activities. Donations from all related events go towards the fundraising initiative.
