TRURO – Building permits issued so far this year by the County of Colchester are up by more than $15 million over last year.
Figures to the end of July show that the county has issued permits valued at $38,946,822, compared to $23,671,900 up to the same period last year, for an increase of $15,274,922.
A good portion of that difference came through the building permit for the Home Hardware warehouse expansion in Debert, valued in June at $13 million.
“The results of our labour, I guess,” Mayor Bob Taylor said, of the effort involved by municipal officials in bringing that project to fruition.
“And there was a lot of labour involved on Home Hardware.”
The total value of 75 permits issued in June was $35,095,022 compared to $4,014,000 for 51 permits issued for the same period last year.
July saw 53 permits issued for value of $3,850,900, compared to 50 permits valued at $3,846,800 in July 2012.
