TRURO - Second and final reading for a bylaw that would see Colchester County's mayor and councillors give themselves a pay raise is set for tonight.
A first reading of the bylaw, which has received some public criticism, was held in June.
Once approved, the salary for Colchester County's mayor will be $56,500 per year. That amounts to an annual hike of $17,000 and is $10,000 more than what was recommended by a consultant hired by council to review its remuneration levels.
The change will see the deputy mayor's pay increased from $23,897 to $29,000, a difference of $5,103 year. Salaries for the remaining 10 councillors are to increase from $18,335 to $23,700 - an annual difference of $5,365 from the existing figure.
Since 2008, council has also had an annual inflation adjustment of two per cent built into its remuneration scale.
