Steven Spielberg arrives for the opening ceremony and the screening of The Great Gatsby in this May 2013 file photo. Rumour has it the Hollywood mogul was in Souris on the weekend.
Celebrity spotters claim Steven Spielberg, the 66-year-old movie mogul who created the world’s most loveable extra-terrestrial and invented sharkphobia, was enjoying the P.E.I. sun and surf.
Responsible for the Indiana Jones series, to Amistad, to Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg was apparently out tuna fishing with an eastern P.E.I. charter boat and even landed a fish.
Meanwhile, action star Vin Diesel was apparently visiting the area as well and was spotted dining at a local area restaurant.
"The tuna charter business is alive and well here on P.E.I. and it is a growing sector,’’ said Wallace Rose of the Eastern P.E.I. Chamber of Commerce. “However, I can’t confirm a thing.”
Rose said, like everyone else, he’s heard the rumours, but noted that any company or business would be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to maintain the privacy of any high-profile guest.
A charter boat business has yet to respond to The Guardian’s request for confirmation about Spielberg’s visit.
Looser lips say a bluefin tuna was landed and even purchased in Souris last weekend, by the very recognizable creator of that classic of cinematic carnage known as Jaws.
