ENFIELD - The Canada Border Services Agency says a 30-year-old man from Ireland has been charged after more than 30 kilograms of khat was seized at the Halifax airport.

The agency says the drug was found during an X-ray examination of two suitcases on Aug. 8.

Peter James Gordon, of Belfast, was arrested shortly after.

He had arrived at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport on a flight from London.

The active ingredients in khat produce a stimulant effect similar to an amphetamine.
