SYDNEY, N.S. — A 22-year-old Cape Breton man charged with three counts of attempted murder is scheduled to return to provincial court next Thursday for a bail hearing.
Colton Joseph MacKinnon, of Howie Centre, is also charged with three counts of aggravated assault in connection with a triple stabbing Aug. 3 in Ingonish Beach.
RCMP say they were called to a home in Ingonish Beach after a report that three males were stabbed. Police say a house party was breaking up at the time when a fight broke out and three men, ages 18, 19 and 20, suffered stab wounds.
Two of the men continue to be patients in a Sydney hospital, while a third has been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.
MacKinnon made a brief provincial court appearance Thursday in Sydney during which he elected trial by judge and jury and requested a preliminary hearing. He is now scheduled back in court Aug. 15 for a bail hearing during which a preliminary hearing date could be scheduled. MacKinnon is being held at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre.
