Man, woman charged after person severely beaten in downtown Halifax

HALIFAX - A man and a woman are facing charges after police say a person was severely beaten in a drug-related incident in downtown Halifax on Tuesday night.

Police responded to a robbery call around 9:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Barrington Street. The victim, a 43-year-old man, alleges he was approached by two people, beaten, and had his money stolen.

The victim went to a nearby business and called police. He was then taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.

Early Wednesday morning, police two people were arrested without incident at a residence in the 2100 block of Gottingen Street.

Martin Andrew Ross, 27, and Holly Lynn MacDonald, 33, both from Halifax, were arrested and are each charged with robbery and breaching a court order.

Ross is also facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
