DARTMOUTH - Parts of some streets in Dartmouth were closed for over 30 minutes on Thursday morning as police conducted a weapons search inside a Dartmouth apartment.

Halifax Regional Police’s Emergency Response Team conducted the search at an apartment at 356 Portland St. at 10 a.m. after believing there were weapons inside.

Spokeswoman Lauren Leal of HRP says no weapons were found in the search  – which lasted about 35 minutes – and that resulted in parts of several nearby streets being closed to traffic. A man and woman inside the apartment were taken into custody and have since been released without charges.

Leal said when any search is conducted, they access the “threat level,” and if it’s deemed high, the Emergency Response Team is used.

Reports indicate the door of the apartment was kicked in when the search began.
