TRURO - Nova Scotians are being asked for input about government services offered to persons with disabilities.

The Services for Persons with Disabilities (SPD) Program of the Department of Community Services, the Continuing Care Branch and the Mental Health, Children's Services and Addictions Branches of the Department of Health and Wellness are working together to design a more person-focused and community-based system of supports and programs for almost 40,000 Nova Scotians who rely on the services we provide.

A key part of this initiative will be hearing from Nova Scotians who receive direct services through the government programs listed above. They want to hear from family members and most importantly 'first voices' about personal experiences as consumers of these services.

Input will help the team focus service design on consumers and their families.

As part of the outreach program a meeting will be held Tuesday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the NSCC Truro Campus, 36 Arthur St., Truro, LRC room 111. Storm date is April 9.

The meeting is one of four scheduled across the province with others held in Halifax, Kentville and Sydney.

During the meeting, people will have the opportunity to share personal experiences as clients of these government services and give feedback on a discussion document.

The feedback will be used to develop a proposed plan to improve services and the ways they are offered.
