Bad weather led to treacherous driving Friday morning throughout Colchester County, with slippery roads leading to at least two minor accidents.

A vehicle left the road near the entrance to Bible Hill on the 311 Highway early Friday morning and a tow truck was called to help to pull a tanker back onto the 311 Highway amid heavy snowfall and blowing winds near the Cross Road in North River.

With residents of Colchester County facing another snow day, drivers should take caution while out on the roads. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal reported passable roads Friday morning. Although the accumulation wasn't as heavy as the storm earlier in the week, drivers still faced drifting in some areas.

Drivers should avoid traveling into or near Cape Breton. Drifting snow and poor visibility have been reported.

The Canso Causeway is closed due a tractor trailer blocking the causeway. The lights on the causeway are also out.

Not suprised to read about these 'accidents', I travel the 311Hwy daily on my commute to work, and on both storm days this week the roads were completely snow covered without a plow/salt truck in site by 8am when I drove to town. It seems once school has been cancelled the priority to keep the roads clear drop significantly... making travel riskier for those of us not fortunate to be granted a snow day. No excuse, IMO, for roads to have not seen at least an initial plowing for morning commuters. I trust the money being saved is worth the risk to motoring public! Not the fault of the operators, more to do with the bean counters I'm sure.
