TRURO – A well-known Masstown entrepreuner is being honoured for his business finesse and dedication to community.

The Truro and Colchester Chamber of Commerce and BDC  (Business Development Bank of Canada) has named Masstown Market founder Eric Jennings the recipient of the BDC Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to a press release by the Truro chamber of commerce, Jennings is receiving the honour because of his “entrepreneurial vision and many years of dedication to Truro and Colchester County.”

The chamber pointed to Jennings’ creation of Masstown Market as a small, single-room building in 1969 as a major accomplishment.

“Eric, along with his wife and family, have good reason to be proud of what Masstown Market has become,” said chamber of commerce president Mike Michaud in a press release.

“He’s the epitome of what it takes to stick to your vision and enlarge upon that vision in a trusted and measured capacity.  That is why Masstown Market is well known for quality and service from North Sydney to Yarmouth and Bathurst.”

Masstown Market has become known as a tourist destination and is visited by more than one million customers annually. Some of its popular items include fresh produce, fish, meats, cheeses, ice cream, groceries, Nova Scotia wines and specialty coffees. The market also features an award-winning gift shop, garden centre, lighthouse-style restaurant, a new corn maze and zip-line attractions.

The chamber also said Jennings’ dedication to

volunteering with numerous community groups and assisted countless sports teams, charity events and community causes over the decades as accomplishments. He is also known for helping other entrepreneurs and neighbouring business owners.

The chamber and BDC will celebrate Jennings’ accomplishments during the chamber’s annual gala dinner on April 4.  The event is open to the public and will be held at the Best Western Glengarry, beginning with a president’s reception at 6 p.m. Terry Davis, the chief operating officer for Home Hardware Canada, will deliver the keynote address at the event. For tickets, email events@trurocolchesterchamber.com or call 895-6328.
