Known as Art Battle, local artists have come together to organize the event to be held April 7 at the Split Crow Pub.
Starting at 7 p.m., 12 of the region's daring established and emerging painters will compete in the live scenario with the winner moving on for a chance to compete in the next Art Battle in Halifax and a shot at the championship battle in June.
Grace Simms, the art teacher at Cobequid Educational Centre, competed in Art Battle 41 in Halifax in January and is one of three organizers for the local event. Danielle Sawada and Lynn Thornton are the other two organizers.
For 20 minutes, participating artists are set up with easels back-to-back in the middle of the room. The audience moves around, watching the artists and cheering them on before voting on their favourite. Each piece is then put on display and up for grabs in a silent auction.
Artists use acrylic paint in the competition and can use tools such as brushes, palette knives and non-mechanical implements. They work freestyle with an open theme.
Tickets for the Truro event are $15 at the door, or $10 in advance. They can be purchased online (artbattle.ca) or at Thrown Together Pottery on King Street in Truro.
