TRURO – A local outreach initiative to assist individuals in need is now accepting applications.

The Bill Rawlinson Memorial Outreach Fund aims to provide financial assistance to people who are economically challenged so that they may improve their chances of increasing their income. Some examples include an upgrade in education, a new skill and obtaining a tool for a trade or a licence.

The deadline to apply is March 31. A recipient for the annual award will be chosen in April. If there is money available, an additional award may be made at another time. Anyone may suggest a candidate or an individual may submit their own name. Applications are available at St. John’s Anglican Church office and on the parish website at

Parishioners of St. John’s and their families are ineligible.

Lynn Rawlinson, in an email to the Truro Daily News, said the fund is in memory of her late husband, Bill, who was the treasurer of St. John’s Anglican Church in Truro. He noticed very little was spent on outreach, yet saw many people come in for food vouchers.

For a number of years, Bill’s family and friends provided seed money for the fund and now many fundraisers and parishioners contributors regularly.

Cheques can be made to St. John’s Anglican Church with BRMOF in the memo line. The address is St. John The Evangelist Church 23 Church Street, Truro, NS B2N 3Z5. More information can be obtained by calling 897-0566 or by emailing
