BIBLE HILL – An indoor washer toss tournament will be held at the Agridome on Saturday.
Event co-ordinator Darren Crowell said more than 90 teams have signed up for the event, which begins at noon, and has attracted participants from Colchester County, Windsor, Halifax and River John.
“I’ve never heard of anything this big,” said Crowell of the number of teams participating in this type of event, adding players range from ages 19 to 60.
The washer toss competition will culminate in a money-round match for the top six teams with $900 up for grabs.
Washer toss is similar to horseshoes and involves two teams of two players taking turns tossing washers towards a washer box. In order to score, one must place a washer into the box, into the can that is within the box, or within one foot (shoe size) of the box.
The event will also include a triple band dance beginning at 6 p.m. with Doug and the Friends Bluegrass Band. They will be followed by Country Heat from 8 to 10 p.m. and then Classic and New Rock-Sweet Revenge from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the dance for $10.
Crowell expects to raise about $800, after expenses, from the overall event. Funds raised help support the Archibald’s Drilling Slow Pitch Club’s over-40 team attend nationals in Gander, NFLD this summer. It will also support the Bud Light 1 Slow Pitch League, which was just created last year.
The tournament is sponsored by Archibald’s Drilling Slow Pitch Club and the Truro Horsemen’s Club. Organizers are already planning the second annual event for next winter.
