At the Truro Daily News, we have always taken seriously our commitment to bring to readers news and information about our community, our country and our world. We take great pride in the fact that no one covers the Truro-Colchester area better or delivers more trustworthy and up-to-date information to the community.
Over our 122-year history, we have transformed and reinvented ourselves to remain relevant in the ever-changing media landscape. While our printed edition comes at a nominal cost to subscribers, we have always delivered online news through our website trurodaily.com at no cost.
But that is just not a sustainable business model any longer and we have had to rethink the way we deliver our online information.
On March 25, 2013, we will be launching our new digital subscription plan (see news story), which will continue to allow free access to a set amount of content across our desktop and mobile websites. When the set reading limit is reached for a 30-day period, we will invite users to become digital subscribers.
Much of what we publish is original content reported by local Truro Daily News staff. Our decision to begin charging for digital access will strengthen our ability to provide quality content to our readers on any platform, and to continue bringing you the news you want, how and when you want it.
This step we are taking will further improve our ability to invest in the high-quality journalism you expect from us. It will enhance our position as a source of trustworthy local news and information, reported by local journalists, for many years to come.
Details about digital subscriptions:
- All visitors to our website, both the desktop and mobile versions, will be able to enjoy up to 10 articles (including multimedia features) every 30 days. Articles, videos and photo galleries will be managed by a metered system. Beyond 10 articles and for open access to the site, visitors will be invited to become digital subscribers.
- All visitors will enjoy unrestricted access to many parts of the website, including the home page, front pages of all content sections, and classifieds.
- Six-day home delivery newspaper subscribers will also receive unlimited access to everything we publish – the printed newspaper, its digital replica the SmartEdition, plus the desktop and mobile websites.
- We will be offering a digital-only subscription, providing unlimited access to our website, both the desktop and mobile versions, at $0.99 for the first month on a trial basis, and $7.99 per month after that.
More than 65,000 people visit trurodaily.com in an average month, making it the digital equivalent of the town square in our community. We are confident that the site will continue to be the voice of the Colchester County, the place where readers gather to learn about their hometown and share their experiences.
