Thomas Logan MacLeod, 23, of Belmont, has elected trial by Supreme Court judge and jury on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a 53-foot tandem trailer and two counts of possession of property valued over $5,000.
He was arrested last November following a police investigation into the theft of a 53-foot long trailer containing $200,000 worth of liquor that was stolen from Westville Road in the Mount William area of Pictou County. The stolen tractor was spotted from an RCMP helicopter at an undisclosed location in Belmont while the trailer was located a short time later.
A second man, Stephen Joseph Dakota Maloney, 21, pled guilty to mischief, theft of a motor vehicle and theft over $5,000. He will be sentenced April 3 in Pictou provincial court.
MacLeod will return to court March 20 for a preliminary hearing.
