School review process continues in Maitland with public meeting Monday

MAITLAND - A public hearing on the potential closure of another local school will take place next week.

The meeting, hosted by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, to receive public feedback on impact assessment reports and study committee responses for Maitland District Elementary School, will take place on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the school on Cedar Road.

Members of the public who want to formally present at a public hearing are asked to contact Debbie Buott-Matheson, CCRSB communications manager, at 897-8911 or via email at buottmathesond@ccrsb.ca. Written submissions may be sent via fax at 897-8989 or mail to 60 Lorne St., Truro, Nova Scotia B2N 3K3.

A public hearing will also be held regarding Wentworth Consolidated Elementary. That meeting is on March 5 at the school beginning at 6:30 p.m.

    It may be disheartening to hear of schools closing, but consider that there are, i believe 20-25 students in this school. this is a disgusting misuse of tax money. I believe education is important, and no one would go without it, but having 3 grades taught in the same class, cannot be a good way to learn.

    Public 'hearing' ...check Pre-determined outcome based on rewarding budget cuts without regard for community impact ...check Government listening ... not More community cynicism ...check System change with the other two Parties in power? ...not

    I find it quite dishearting that rural elementary schools in Colchester County are being closed when the New Cicvic center is going to be over 3/4 million dollars in the red ....I would much rather see my tax dollars being used to keep the schools open ....doesn't seem quite right does it ? ...or am I missing th epoint ?
