TATAMAGOUCHE – An old building that for years was used to ferment learning may soon be used for fermentation of another sort.

“They’re planning on using it for a micro-brewery,” Colchester County acting CAO Bruce Purchase said, of the former Tatamagouche library.

A purchase agreement is in place for the former library building between the municipality and Hans Christian Jost of Jost Vineyards in Malagash.

Further details, including the purchase price were not immediately available because the deal is not yet signed.

The land and building were previously assessed at $76,300 although the market value could be greater or less than that amount.

The old library closed last year after a new facility was constructed a few blocks away.

Under municipal law, the building cannot be sold for less than fair market value without first holding a public meeting and garnering two thirds of a majority vote from council.
