TRURO – The future of the former Acadian Lines building in Truro is unknown.
Mike Cassidy, owner of Maritime Bus, which took over bus operations in Truro when Acadian Lines closed in November,
told the Truro Daily News he has no plans to operate out of the Willow Street building.
“I don’t think that’s the spot” for Maritime Bus, said Cassidy, adding buses have had success using the Via Rail lot along the Esplanade as a bus depot since Dec. 1.
“Bus and rail travel together is (good). If a (person is a) bus and train traveller, now we are connected. It’s convenient to the customer,” said Cassidy, adding the company operates in Truro, Halifax and Moncton.
Cassidy is not the owner of the Acadian Lines building and said he’s unsure if the owner has any plans for it. A call from the Truro Daily News to the building’s owner was not returned on Friday.
Truro Mayor Bill Mills and the town’s planning administrator, Juanita Bigelow, also said they have not heard of any immediate plans for the building, which now has a little graffiti on the front.
“I haven’t heard anything … that’s not to say the town wouldn’t be interested in it some day,” said Mills.
