SHELBURNE – More charges have been laid in connection with a carload of contraband cigarettes intercepted near Truro on Oct.  9.

A 2007 Chevrolet Impala and approximately 140,000 contraband cigarettes were seized by police following an investigation conducted by the Shelburne County RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit.

Thomas Benjamin Foote, 44, and Cody Douglas Garron, 24, were arrested at the time and subsequently charged with Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the provisions of the Federal Excise Act.

Logan James Swim, 25, has been jointly charged with Foote and Garron for Conspiracy to Commit the Offence of Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Criminal Code. All three men are Shelburne County residents and are scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on Jan. 16.

Cpl. Nancy Mason of the Shelburne County Street Crime Unit says "Organized crime is extensively involved in the illicit tobacco market and the RCMP and our policing partners are committed to disrupting organized crime and their supply chain in every community."

In cooperation with Service Nova Scotia's Fuel and Tobacco Compliance Unit, all three men face additional charges under the Provincial Revenue Act.
