BIBLE HILL – Lawn damage at the Bible Hill Recreation Park has resulted in the village commission taking action to prevent another situation from occurring.

Village clerk Bob Christianson informed commissioners at a village committee meeting on Tuesday night that over the Christmas holidays a car drove onto the park’s lawn.

“There was damage to the lawns but not to the (playground) structures,” said Christianson.

In response, commissioners agreed to spend $2,800 to purchase about 100 tons of large rocks that would be placed around the parking lot to prevent people from driving past the parking lot onto the lawn or near the playground.

There is a gate leading into the park, which was placed two years ago, but it wasn’t intended to keep people off the lawn, said Christianson.

“I don’t think it was ever used to control” parking issues, said Christianson, adding the gate was put in when work was being done to the sewer pump station.

Another reason to use the rocks instead of relying on the gate is because staffing the opening and closing of the gate would also be a concern, said Christianson.
