Case dates to wide-sweeping drug bust in 2007

TRURO - A previously convicted drug trafficker has been sentenced to two years federal time under proceeds of crime legislation.

The sentence for Chris Lynds, 35, for possessing property acquired under the proceeds of crime and for money laundering, may also include forfeiture of a house and property at 511 Jollytown Road in East Mountain, $10,000 cash, a pickup truck, ATVs and motorcycles and numerous other items.

Federal Crown prosecutor Scott Hughes said he could not confirm the actual list of forfeitured items until final negotiations have taken place with Lynd’s defence lawyer, which is expected to take place later this week.

Lynds was recently sentenced in provincial court in Truro after pleading guilty to the charges, which stemmed from a wide-sweeping Colchester County drug bust in September 2007.

He received a federal prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to 11 counts of trafficking in cocaine and also on two other charges of possessing both cocaine and crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Similar charges against Chris’s mother Janice Lynds, 55, who was named in a joint court information, were dismissed by the court.
