More areas of Truro designated smoke-free

TRURO – More areas in the Town of Truro will be designated smoke-free.

Truro town council voted unanimously on Monday to implement a new smoke-free bylaw.

The previous bylaw dictated smoking was not permitted on Inglis Place and on playgrounds owned by the town.

The first reading of a potential updated bylaw was discussed at council last month. During the second, and final, reading of the bylaw on Monday, solicitor John Rafferty clarified that the new bylaw would expand to include no smoking on Inglis Place, playgrounds owned by the town as well as all trails, parks and green spaces owned by the town. Recreation facilities, the civic block and around the Colchester Legion Stadium will also now be smoke-free areas.

I have decided not to smoke for a reason. I should be able to spend time outside without breathing someone else's second hand smoke. There needs to be more respect for each other too. I understand that you have the right to smoke, but don't I have the right to clean air?

the government should be spending their time on things like looking after seniors and more doctors instead of telling people where they can and cant smoke im not a smoker but people should be free to smoke where they want and not have the government tell them where they can or cant pretty soon they will be telling us everything that we can and cantdo what is happening to our rights

All I can say to this is GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!! I have been a non smoker now for almost 12 yrs and wouldn't dream of going back to that god awful habit. That being said,I would love to know just how you intend to stop them from smoking in the park and where ever else they want to smoke.

The town is taking no smoking bylaws to far .I quit 3 yrs ago but people who smoke are tax payers and they have the right to have their smoke especially if they work in the downtown area . If some war vets were at the war monument and decided to light up ,they should be allowed cause if not for their time overseas none of us would be free to do anything ,but the way governments and certain groups we are getting strapped to do what we want and please .
