It wasn’t to be. Not even close as Canada was spanked by the Americans 5-1 in Thursday’s semifinal.
“I’m p*****d,” said 19-year-old Kirk Budden during the second intermission with Canada trailing 4-0.
But like true Canadian hockey fans Budden and his group of buddies, decked out in Team Canada colours, refused to accept the inevitable heartbreak.
After Canada scored a quick goal early in the third the boys broke into roaring chants.
“CANADA! CANADA!”
Minutes later the mood changed to desperation and soon after the Americans iced the victory.
“Pretty sad,” said Derek Trider. “I’ve spent 50 bucks at Bubba Ray’s to see my team lose.”
Canada will play for bronze on Saturday at 5 a.m.
