NINE MILE RIVER, Hants County — RCMP say a man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly attacking another man with a hammer.

Police say officers were called to a residence on Renfrew Road in Nine Mile River around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

They say a 50-year-old man had been attacked with a hammer and a woman who tried to intervene was assaulted, both sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Paul Roderick Fowler, 44, was arrested at a nearby home and is charged with several counts including attempted murder and assault.

The Mounties say Fowler has served as president of the Hants County chapter of the Bacchus Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, but investigators don’t know if he is still affiliated with the gang.

Police say the victims and suspect are known to each other.

Fowler has been remanded to the Burnside Correctional Facility and will be appearing in Truro Provincial Court Wednesday.
