New Year’s Eve celebrations otherwise relatively quiet

TRURO – New Year’s Eve revelers kept things to a relatively dull roar in Truro, police say, except for one partier who was injured while being evicted from Champions Bar and Grill.

“They were concerned about a head injury,” Truro Police Service Sergeant Gary Thibedeau said, of the reason for having the unidentified man transferred from the Colchester East Hants Health Centre to a hospital in Halifax.

Thibedeau said the man struck his head on the ground while being evicted by bar staff after he had become “pretty intoxicated” and unruly.

He said the injuries are not considered life threatening.

Truro police were busy throughout the night responding to a number of calls related to disturbing the peace but in many cases the reports were deemed unfounded and none related in any arrests, Thibideau said.

And Truro motorists appeared to have heeded cautions against drinking and getting behind the wheel as no impaired driving charges were laid throughout the evening.

RCMP reports for Colchester County were not immediately available.
