RCMP recover stolen trailer load of liquor valued at $200,000

DEBERT – Two Colchester County men are in police custody after a tractor-trailer load of stolen booze was recovered Sunday in Debert.

The 53-ft.-long trailer containing $200,000 worth of liqouor was stolen from Westville Road in the Mount William area of Pictou County.  

RCMP in Pictou County were advised of the theft shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sunday and following an investigation by members of the Street Crime Enforcement Units from Pictou and Colchester County, along with assistance from an RCMP helicopter, two men were later arrested near the trailer.

A RCMP police service dog helped apprehend the suspects and the trailer and alcohol were recovered.

A 23-year-old Belmont man and 21-year-old man from Truro are in police custody facing charges of theft and possession of stolen property. They are to appear provincial court in Pictou at a later date.

The investigation is continuing with further arrests and charges anticipated.
